30 years had to go by, since he began his frantic course in music, for Paul Weller to step on Greek territory for a concert. Better late than never though. The happy hour came and we went ...Few hours ago, the rocks of Byron and all those swho were at the concert, got a strong sample of what a Modfather is.
Paul Weller appeared on stage 2 minutes after 22:00 and while the place was full enough, although it seemed difficult at first. One of the organizers read a short statement and immediately after that the first notes of the Wild Blue Yonder were been heard. Constantly changing guitars (from Telecaster to the famous Epiphone Casino OF'65 and back), "touring" the stage, dominating perfectly, with blond hair and the incredibly strong, over the years, voice. The 50year old Weller has nothing to be jealous of the youngster once created the Jam. Instead, he is in one of the most creative periods of his life and the evidence was there, in front of our eyes and ears, so as to see and listen.
Excellent band, Steve Cradock (a member of Ocean Colour Scene and permanent collaborator for many years) on guitars, Andy Lewis on bass, Andy Crofts in the keybords, Steve Pilgrim on drums and all of them in vocals, gave great opportunity to the main actor of the evening to roll the ball with some of the highlights of his career. The lion's share was indeed the path of solo career (1991 until today) but those who wanted to hear some more old hits, were not disappointed. Highlights were the most classic The Changing Man and Eton Rifles , a nouar execution of Wild Wood , Shout To The Top since the Style Council , the moments that Weller sat on the piano to enchant us with You Do Something To Me and Broken Stones and the amazing Town Called Malice for closure.
What if the public was not as hot as could be for most of the night (it had to hear an electric That's Entertainment to «wake up»)? What if the sound had some slight problems, especially in the beginning? Nothing was able to spoil the celebration. For almost 2 hours, Paul Weller gave it all, confirming the reputation of a great performer that follows him. Incredible energy and a great set of songs: that's really entertainment !
