At least eight whole weeks will be required for Bono in order to be fully recovered and start with the others U2's 360 Tour 2010. This of course means that all shows of the group (16 concerts) in North America are canceled!
Bono has just been dicharged from Ludwig Maximilians-University (LMU) Hospital Munich, where he was entered last Friday. To fully recover he should follow the instructions of doctors for at least 8 weeks !!!
The Dr Muller Wohlfahrt said the following: " Bono suffered severe compression of the sciatic nerve. In reviewing the MRI, I realized there was a serious problem and that link conservative treatment is not enough. I recommended Bono have immediate spine surgery with professor Tonn at the University Hospital of Munich (LMU) last Friday. "
Prof Tonn said the following:" Bono was referred to me by Dr Muller Wohlfahrt late last week with a sudden onset disease. He was already in severe pain with partial paralysis in the lower leg. The ligament surrounding the disc had an 8mm tear and during surgery we discovered fragments of the disc had traveled into the spinal canal. This surgery was the only course of treatment for full recovery and to avoid further paralysis. Bono is now much better, with complete recovery of his motor deficit. The prognosis is excellent but to obtain a sustainable result, he must now enter a period of rehabilitation.».
The manager of U2, Paul McGuinness, stated: " Our biggest and I believe best tour has been interrupted and we're all devastated. For a performer who lives to be on stage, this is more than a blow. He feels robbed of the chance to do what he does best and feels like he has badly let down the band and their audience. Which is of course nonsense. His concerns about more than a million ticket buyers whose plans have been turned upside down, we all share, but the most important thing right now is that Bono make a full recovery. We're working as fast as we can with Live Nation to reschedule these dates "
In 8 weeks the doctors estimate the time of full recovery of the U2's singer. As I understand, this means that not only will the U2 concert in Salt Lake City be postponed on June 3rd, but also and the upcoming 15 up to July 19th !!!
Live Nation is trying to find new dates for these concerts, which, as you understand cover the whole band's tour in North America. Of course, most of them were Sold-Out.
Update 15:19 : Canceled U2's show at this year's Glastonbury Festival! Bono said about it: " I am very sad. We'd love to be there and do something really good. We have also written song specifically for the Festival."
Does this event lead to cancellations of European shows too? Perhaps we are starting to fear for their appearance on 3rd of September at the Olympic Stadium?
Logically, this can not happen. But, just got a new factor in programming of Live Nation, and truth be told, US' market is greater than that of Europe and particularly of our in Greece.
Remains to be seen ladies and gentlemen ...
Update 15: 26 : According to a Live Nation in the official site of U2 , canceled concerts will be rescheduled in 2011.
