Gimme 10: The Sun

Coming back from my vacation, I was looking desperately for the subject of today's column. After much thought I arrived at something that, although we are now in autumn, most clearly is associated with the summer that we bid farewell a few days ago. Hoping to help those who have difficulty in realizing that vacation has ended, I chose to present you 10 songs for the star of life, the sun. Have a nice adjustment and good winter!

1. Here Comes The Sun - The Beatles
(George Harrison)
Harrison wrote this great song, one of the best of his career, strolling around in Eric Clapton's garden, away from the other Fab 4 and the offices of Apple. Included in Abbey Road , the last album the Beetles recorded .

2. Fat Old Sun - Pink Floyd
(David Gilmour)
A folk ballad from Atom Heart Mother, 1970, recorded almost entirely by Gilmour, with a little help from Rick Wright . The Floyd acted "vile" on it several times, tzaming on stage, leading to even fourteen minute long versions. Gilmour continued to play it until recently in worldwide concerts.

3. Sun It Rises - Fleet Foxes

The opening track from the best album, for many, of 2008. Coming from Seattle the Fleet Foxes, masterfully combine great melodies with particular verses and bright vocal harmonies, attracting in their own right the attention of world music fans .

4. Distant Sun - Crowded House
(Neil Finn)
First single from Together Alone (1993), the fourth album by Crowded House. Another excellent example of the melodic vein of Neil Finn. The verse «7 worlds collide» gave the name to the supergroup that was formed by Finn with Johnny Marr and members of Radiohead and Wilco.

5. Sun Hits The Sky - Supergrass
(Gaz Coombes-Danny Goffey-Mick Quinn-Rob Coombes)
Third single from the appallingly good second album of the group, entitled In It For The Money (1997). Pace, guts and melody in an irresistible combination. Why these children never got the recognition they deserve, is a mystery.

6. Staring At The Sun - TV On The Radio
(Tunde Adebimpe-Kyp Malone-David Andrew Sitek)
Combining alternative rock, free jazz, electro and soul elements, this great American band continues to surprise the music community. This gem is from their debut, Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes , released in 2004.

7. Sun In My Mouth - Bjork
(Bjork-Guy Sigsworth-EE Cummings)
The Vespertine , the fifth solo album of the "elf" from Iceland, was released in 2001 and is one of her best work. Low tones and mysterious atmosphere govern all tracks, including this serene track.

8. Sun Is Shining - The Fireman
(Paul McCartney)
Under the pseudonym The Fireman, Paul McCartney and Youth (former member of Killing Joke) have released three albums, most recently last year's Electric Arguments , where for the first time there are songs. This is the most adventurous album of Macca for many years, proving that there is still life in this old horse ...

9. The Sun Doesn't Like You - Norah Jones
(Norah Jones-Lee Alexander)
Having swept the Grammys with her debut, the illegitimate daughter of Ravi Shankar released two more personal albums. This selection is from the third, Not Too Late in 2007, where Jones has shown to mature as a songwriter.

10. That Lucky Old Sun - Brian Wilson
(Haven Gillespie-Harry Beasley Smith)
The biggest praiser of sunny California could certainly not be absent from this list. Despite the problems faced since the 1960s because of drugs, old-Brian has not ceased to reveal aspects of his talent until now. Here is a cover of a classic song, in the album of the same name in 2008.
