With new vocalist William DuVall, after the death of Layne Staley in 2002, one of the most effective rock bands, Alice in Chains are back with a new album after 14 years!
After reunification in 2005 and various live performances, Alice in Chains entered the studio in October of 2008 . According to the guitarist Jerry Cantrell, the recording of the album was completed in March of this year and their goal was to advance to the necessary mixing and distributing their new work in autumn this year. So they did.
With a title that may refer to what occurred after the death of Layne Staley, "Black gives way to blue" will be released on September 29 with the singles "A Looking in View" (30/06 - listen to it here ) and "Check my brain" (17/08 - listen to it here).
Sean Kinney (drummer) has said in a statement that there are lyrics on the album associated with Layne Staley. He also said the following: " There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of him. And there's a lot to address, with all of that stuff coming to the forefront. A lot has happened since 1995, a lot has happened in our lives and we've never talked about it or discussed it publicly. So some of that is what's addressed here. That's the way we operate, it's about what really happened in life. We're not really the fast cars and chicks songs. It's basically what's happened in life, but a lot has happened since the last record. And it's on this record. "
