REM, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Jackson Browne, Billy Bragg and other musicians have joined forces to support the efforts of the U.S. president to close the prison in Guantanamo Bay.
The revelation from the Senate Committee on Armed Forces for the deafening music used by the military as a method of interrogation has angered many musicians.
REM stated: "Over the last 30 years we support purposes related to peace and justice. Knowing now that the music of some of our friends can be used as part of regular torture, without their knowledge or consent, causes terror. It is completely un-American."
According to the report from the BBC, Report of the National Security Archive, published in November 2008, makes several references to methods of interrogation, indicating the use of music and songs by musicians such as AC/DC, Britney Spears, Bee Gees and Marilyn Manson.
