This year's EMAs held in Berlin on the occasion of the anniversary of 20 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall, in a broadcast of over 500 million viewers in the world. The glittering evening of EMAs started with an impressive opening show by Green Day, followed by a medley of the five candidate songs in the category for Best Song, such as the hit «Halo» of Beyoncé and the «Use Somebody» of Kings of Leon, performed by the hostess of the evening Katy Perry.
The Katy Perry gave to the awards for another year her Energy and characteristic humor. She appeared in a series of dazzling dresses inspired by the classic musical set in 1930, Cabaret. The glamorous presenter was very attractive and responded to her part with great flair.
In the middle of the night the show continued with a live connection to the Brandenburg Gate, where the idols of the rock music scene, U2, captivated the viewers with a live appearance before moving to the historic monument, which is a symbol of peace throughout the world, but it is also the venue of the first MTV Europe Music Awards. In front of 10,000 lucky fans, the Irish legends gave a short concert with favorite songs such as «Sunday, Bloody Sunday», «Magnificent» and «One» - the anthem inspired by the fall of the Berlin Wall 1989.
In the highlights of the Awards there was of the very sexy interpretation of «Happy» by Leona Lewis, the uplifting version of «Sweet Dreams» by Beyoncé, who appeared dressed in red so literally taking away the breath of the public, and rock anthems «Wheels» and «All My Life» by Foo Fighters. Speaking of hot times, the Colombian siren Shakira raised the temperature with a performance of «Did It Again» surrounded by dancers wearing only towels! Another moving moment of the evening was when Beyoncé took the stage to receive the award for Best Song for Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It), and asked only one thing to thank her beloved companion Jay-Z who made her happy with their marriage.
Guest presenters at this year's EMAs were among others: the actor, musician and international celebrity, David The Hoff Hasselhoff, the hip hop diva Lil 'Kim, the world boxing champion, Wladimir Klitschko, actor Jesse Metcalfe, the pop/rock phenomenon, Jonas Brothers, the actor from Inglorious Basterds Daniel Brühl, supermodel Franziska Knuppe, the German football ace Lothar Matthäus and the Backstreet Boys, Juliette Lewis, Jean Reno, Miranda Cosgrove, Asia Argento, Bar Refaeli, Brody Jenner, David Guetta, Pixie Lott, Tara Reid, Daniel Merrieweather and Batista. The talented British soul singer and songwriter Joss Stone other than the prize awarded, made her debut as a presenter in the glamorous «2009 EMA: Red Carpet Show» along with MTV VJ Joco, while Pete Wentz, of Fall Out Boy, presented the digital show «2009 EMA: All Access».
Within EMAs, the VJ of MTV Alex Kavdas handed the Award for Best Greek Act to our Helena Paparizou, which thanked once again the audience of Greek MTV. Excerpt from the video clip of Helena Paparizou "Tha'mai allios" was shown when the EMAs presented the Best Regional Act of countries participating in the contest.
In addition, there was very high traffic and response from visitors who chose to attend the show, exclusive red carpet footage and backstage scenes, through www.mtvema.com and the fan page of MTV Greece on facebook. During the live Internet broadcasting (streaming), users made enthusiastic reviews for the spectacle they were watching online, as well as exchange messages giving the show a unique interactive dimension.
It's a fact that the MTV Europe Music Awards have been established as one of the most spectacular live music events worldwide. This year the Awards were broadcast to 532 million viewers in recipients worldwide. In 2008, the EMAs had more than 4 million unique visitors in www.mtvema.com and 100 million online votes!
