As I had foretold last time, today the column runs towards glory - with the relating songs as always.
1. Glory Days – Bruce Springsteen
(Bruce Springsteen)
The fifth out of a total of seven singles that came out of the extremely successful album Born In The U.S.A. (1984) is actually a bitter-sweet memory from the narrator's life. It reached to #5 in the Billboard charts.
2. Loves Full Glory – Linda McCartney
(Linda McCartney)
A few months after the death of his wife Linda, ο Paul McCartney compiled all the songs by his late wife and released them in an album entitled Wide Prairie (1998). There one can find this melancholic guitar ballad with the plain love lyrics.
3. Glory to tell (Doxa na les) – Alkistis Protopsalti
(Nick Antypas-Lina Nikolakopoulou)
A song out of the last really great album released by Protopsalti, Like A Rising Volcano (San Ifaisteio Pou Xypna) in 1997. A beautiful melody and acrobat lyrics give her great voice another chance to shine.
4. Morning Glory – Leonard Cohen
(Leonard Cohen)
A song from Dear Heather (2004), in which old-Leonard recites the lyrics with his deep voice, accompanied by female vocals and a slow tempo.
5. Glory Box – Portishead
(Geoff Barrow-Beth Gibbons-Adrian Utley)
One of the masterpieces by the Portishead, this song form their debut, Dummy (1994), sample a song by Isaac Hayes without losing its originality at all. The Bristol sound in full glory.
6. Hometown Glory – Adele
(Adele)
The young Adele Laurie Blue Adkins wrote most of her debut songs at the age of 19 – and that number is the album's title. This song was written within 10 minutes, when her mother tried to make her leave her parents' house and go to the university.
7. Blaze Of Glory – Jon Bon Jovi
(Jon Bon Jove-Danny Kortchmar)
In 1990 Jon Bon Jovi released his solo debut album - including this, homonym track - containing songs from the movie Young Guns II by Geoff Murphy. As a single this song did really well and comprises the only solo hit by the songwriter.
8. Moment Of Glory – Scorpions
(Klaus Meine)
The homonym trach to the album the German Scorpions released in 2000 and in which they are accompanied by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. It also became the official EXPO 2000 song, held at Hanover.
9. Glory To The Brave – Hammerfall
(Oscar Dronjak-Jesper Stromblad-Joacim Cans)
The debut of the Swedish power metal band Hammerfall was entitled after this song, which is an epic ballad. Not exactly my favorite, but ok...
10. Moonlight In Glory – Brian Eno/David Byrne
(Brian Eno-David Byrne)
The album My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts (1981) was not only a great moment for its creators, but also a twist for the broader area of popular music of every kind. Songs like this prove this true, almost 30 years later.
