Since 2008 the Klaxons have been preparing their new album, which was released just last month. A kind of justification for this delay is that the result is not  exactly what the band was  hoping to release, since they came across many problems with their company and were in dispute about the production of Surfing the void. To be more precise, the band started to work with Tony Visconti and Focus as producers, and afterwards with James Ford from the Simian Mobile disco. The result was rejected by their company, Polydor. The fourth producer, who finally completed the project, was Ross Robinson who has previously worked with the Korn and Slipknot.

I think this introduction was necessary to kind of justify the sound of some songs from Surfing the void, as well as the performance of the Klaxons in last year's Ejekt. Not that the album does not include good songs, the opposite: the first single, Echoes, is one of their best songs. Good moments also include The same space, Valley of the calm trees, Venusia, Twin flames and Future memories. In general, the second album by the band from London presents clearly less psychedelic-pop elements and more metal guitars, as in  Cypherspeed, Flashover - flirting with progressive rock envying the glory of the Muse - and Extra astronomical.

Still, I suspect that if the Klaxons had co-operated with one of their original producers, we would be speaking of something more enjoyable, closer to the sound of their debut, Myths of the near future. But what can we say, this is how things work in the rock’n’roll fairy tale.
