The anticipation of all metal fans has ended as the line-up of this year's Sonisphere Festival has been announced. We've been writing about it and we kept saying that the announcement would follow within the month.
As for the line-up, was almost certain that Iron Maiden would be the headliners of Sonisphere 2011. It is quite common in this year's festivals around the world. The Mastodon and the Slipknot along with Maiden make a very good trio, which, I think, already made Greek fans of metal happy.

The Sonisphere Festival returns to Greece for the second consecutive year with an unbeatable line up welcomes as headliners the premier live rock band on the planet, the IRON MAIDEN! The Iron Maiden were founded by bassist Steve Harris in the mid 70s and were already established as one of the brighter hopes of heavy metal music in 1982 when they conquered the whole world with their third album 'The Number Of The Beast'. During the decade that followed, Maiden were recording and touring tirelessly - seven new studio albums and seven world tours only in the 80s. Reaffirming their reputation as the band that tours the most around the world with the typical figure of Eddie, the mascot of the band, gracing the cover of every album and every T-shirt, the Iron Maiden created their own universe. A universe that welcomes fans from every culture, religion and social status and their wholehearted involvement and promises a spectacular live action.
With milestones in their careers, such as the marathon world tour 1984 / 5 Slavery Tour, the headlining appearance at Rock in Rio in 1985 and 2001 and the Monsters Of Rock festival at Castle Donington in 1988 (which still is the biggest musical event ever made with 107,000 viewers), the Maiden set new standards and never stop reinventing themselves both musically and in terms of entertainment.
With their success continuing into the 21st century Maiden have seen albums achieving sales of over 80 million so far, while the 2010 has proved again this year - stop in their careers, with the release of their 15th studio album, 'The Final Frontier', which became the biggest success in the charts so far. The album came straight to No.1 in the impressive number of 28 countries around the world. From Lebanon, Arabia, Japan and India in the East, Canada West, New Zealand, Southeast, the United Kingdom and most of Europe, including Greece, where it reached No.1 in the IFPI chart, and throughout Latin America, and also reached No.1 in European Billboards, in the Tastemaker and Rock Charts, and No. 4 in the U.S., reaching the highest position an Iron Maiden album has ever reached in this country. On 13 February 2011, Iron Maiden were honored with the Grammy Award for "Best Metal Performance" for the song "El Dorado" from the album "The Final Frontier". World Tour "The Final Frontier World Tour" started in June 2010, by giving 25 shows in North America and selected after following headlining shows in stadiums and major festivals in Europe. In 2011 the band continues to tour The Final Frontier Tour flying the skies with the specially designed aircraft, Boeing 757 airliner Ed Force One, with the singer Bruce Dickinson himself as pilot, who holds a master aircraft and who once again, will carry the group and the technicians and the production of 10 tonnes, 50,000 miles away, across the world in 66 days. The tour continues in Europe with "The Sonisphere" and headlining appearances at other stadiums, arenas and festivals and will be completed in August in London, where until then the Maiden should have given 101 shows and have appeared in more than two million fans, by the start of the world tour, The Final Frontier World Tour.
SLIPKNOT Last time, the gods of American metal, the SLIPKNOT, swarmed with their explosive appearance in TerraVibe Park was the summer of 2009! The biggest rock event this summer in Athens, Sonisphere, the "worms"-The Maggots-will upset Greece once again. In one appearance, a tribute to the original member, Paul Gray, who left last year, promising that no one will stay intact this summer. The nine "masked" men came back and promise to give it all on stage!

MASTODON The explosive metallic sound of MASTODON will sound at last at this year's Sonisphere. The pioneers of new wave American metal scene were "born" in 1999 in Atlanta by four fellows who admired bands like the Melvins, Neurosis and the Thin Lizzy. Twelve years later, four albums, descriptions such as "new Metallica" and carrying back the number of tours and live appearances come to make it up to us and we are ready to scream "Mastodon!!! Mastodon !!!".
GOJIRA
With a name that refers to the Japanese monster Godzilla, with a mix of music death, thrash, groove & progressive metal, with four albums as assets, with imaginative lyrics and environmentally conscious - they do not come easily into molds. The only certainty is that with their strong sound, brutal vocals, the indescribable power, the French would be amazing on the stage of Sonisphere.
VIRUS
The VIRUS, the Norwegian avant-garde rock band, formed in 2000 by Carl - Michael Eide, with already three albums, will fill with their characteristic sound and unusual experiments the stage of Sonisphere.
