Florence Welch speaks of her new album, Ceremonials, the tour with U2 and the change that the work of composer and performer has brought to her life, like the decision to be sober on stage.

The new album Ceremonials is based on Florence's experience gained from her tour debut. Many songs from the first album had to be diversified for concerts, but this is something that will not happen in Ceremonials. The new album is on familiar paths, with touches of soul and epic pop-rock music. 'Ceremonials is a grander album than Lungs. Epic but more cohesive through working with just one producer' Paul Epworth, at Abbey Road Studios. The lyrics do no longer involve metaphysical creatures, but the song Only if for a night was written for her grandmother who she lost when she was 13 years old and had not dreamed of her again since.

Florence, although impressive on stage, still has reservations about the publicity. Most scary moments of her life was when she had to face large crowd, like at the Grammy Awards. She states that her personality is two-pronged. She seeks to have everything under control even the smallest detail as a true 'control freak', but often results in chaos and drama. Both sides, however, seems to exist in harmony on stage 'I immerse myself completely when I perform and the chaos and control are one'.

Her collaboration with U2, on their tour in America, made her a more mature and professional performer. Bono himself gave her advice on how to stand on stage and use her
hands more expressively. The daily concerts were very tiring, but even more was carrying it out with a hangover from the drinks and late nights.

That's why she decided to be more consistent with her body, and her audience. She stopped drinking during the tour to be continuously sober and have better control of her voice. She said she has seen results and greatly improved her vocal ability. As the former art student said 'This is the best job in the world and I don't want to spoil it'.

The album by Florence And The Machine will be released on October 31. (Source: The Sun, Photo: Andre Paul Pinces
