In England Christmas bring besides gifts the "Christmas No.1" single. The best-selling single the week before Christmas. From 2005 - 2010 the title goes to the winner's song of the television singing competition X-Factor. Except from 2009. Then an effort through Facebook, made "Christmas No.1" single "Killing In The Name Of" by Rage Against The Machine. This year has a similar effort for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana on the occasion of the 20 years since the release of the album "Nevermind".
But what if the X-Factor song was "Smells Like Teen Spirit"? Courtney Love sent a tweet on November 24, to the producer of the television contest, Simon Cowell suggesting Nirvana songs for contestant Janet Devlin:
"@SimonCowell you want some Nirvana songs? @JanetJealousy is from same town as Kurt? I have the perfect idea for that, call me babe."
(Kurt Cobain seems to have come from a village in Ireland near where Janet Devlin - JanetJealousy - contestant in the X-Factor comes from)
It was followed by another tweet in which Courtney Love said she would give the rights only for "In Bloom":
"@JanetJealousy @simoncowell i know it when i see it, but id want to have a hand in it, in bloom is the song, nothing else. "
After all that "In Bloom" wasn't heard in X-Factor. Contestant Janet Devlin refused to sing because as she said: "don't want Cobain rolling in his grave". She sang "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol but failed to stay in the competition.
It is known that Love does not give easily the rights for the songs by Nirvana. She has said: "Nirvana belong to me and my daughter (Frances Bean). For tax reasons I have to give that money to his sister, Kim Cobain and (mother of Kurt) Wendy Cobain. Dave (Grohl) makes 5 million each live. Does he have any card Nirvana Inc. that I have not?" Generally Courtney does not seem to have the best relationship with the frontman of Foo Fighters and former drummer of Nirvana, Dave Grohl. See (in English).
