The importance of the heart in the function of human organism adds up to the prominent place this organ found in thousands of songs, symbolizing the center of sentiment. This topic will certainly occupy us again in the future.

1. Heart Of Glass – Blondie

(Debbie Harry-Chris Stein)
A colossal single, from Parallel Lines (1979), which climbed to the top of charts in both sides of the Atlantic and comprises one of the most popular and best songs by the Blondie. It was initially recorded in 1975 entitled Once I Had A Love but got its final form when the producer Mike Chapman convinced the band to follow a disco direction.

2. King Of Broken Hearts – Ringo Starr

(Richard Starkey-Mark Hudson-Dean Grakal-Steve Dudas)
A selection from Vertical Man (1998), one of the best solo albums by the ex Beatles drummer. With a great slide solo by his old buddy, George Harrison.

3. I Am Trying To Break Your Heart – Wilco

(Jeff Tweedy)
The opening track of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002), with diffuse melancholy, bells and acoustic guitars. A genuine fruit of frontman Jeff Tweedy's depression.

4. Broken Heart – Spiritualized

(Jason Pierce)
This mini epic by Jason Pierce is included in the magnum opus by the Spiritualized, Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space (1997). It was probably written in reference to Pierce's break-up from Kate Radley, the band's keyboards player, who ended up in the arms of Richard Ashcroft from The Verve.

5. Cold, Cold Heart – Norah Jones

(Hank Williams)
We continue with clearly more earthly tunes and Norah Jones' cover of a song by the great country star Hank Williams. It can be found in the debut by the illegitimate daughter of Ravi Shankar, Come Away With Me (2002), which launched her very high.

6. Way To Your Heart – Julian Lennon

(Julian Lennon-Dalbello)
John Lennon's son from his marriage to Cynthia Powell, Julian, also followed a musical career, without being able to escape the shadow of his famous father. Here we listen to him in a selection from the album Photograph Smile in 1998 where the resemblance of his voice and style to those of his father, becomes apparent. He also borrows from his the rhythm line of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.

7. I Left My Heart In San Francisco – Tony Bennett
(George Cory-Douglass Cross)
This song was written in account of Claramae Turner but although she performed it as encore in her shows, she never recorded it. It was meant to be Tony Bennett's registered trade mark, who performed it for the first time in an album, in the homonym album in 1962. Since then, it has been covered many times, with the most recent being included in Duets: An American Classic in 2006.

8. Fire In My Heart – Super Furry Animals

(Huw Bunford-Cian Ciaran-Dafydd Ieuan-Guto Pryce-Gruff Rhys)
The tenth single by the Welshes made it to #25 in the british charts. It comprises a wonderful moment with a minimalistic start and an unexpected evolution until the metatonic burst just before the finale.

9. Only My Heart Talkin’ – Alice Cooper/Steven Tyler

(Alice Cooper-Bruce Roberts-Andy Goldmark)
One of the four singles from the super succesful Trash in 1989. A powerful ballad featuring Steven Tyler, the Aerosmith singer, in vocals.

10. Heart In The Hand Of The Matter - …And You Will Know Us By The Trail
Of Dead
(Kevin Allen-Neil Busch-Conrad Keely-Jason Reece)
Source Tags & Codes is the third studio album by the Texans but their first one with a big company (Interscope). It was released in 2002 and is probably their best work. There ypu can find this song that powerfully closes our meeting for today and renews our date for next Friday. Be here!
