On October 25 will be released the new album by the man, whose presence we missed this summer, Elvis Costello. Produced by T Bone Burnett, "National Ransom" has of course Elvis' usual friends: The Imposters and Sugarcanes, and various collaborations with Vince Gill, Marc Ribot, Buddy Miller and Leon Russell.
National Ransom (Hear Music / Concord Music Group) is the title of the record as is the first rock n 'roll song that opens the album. The latter was recorded within 11 days in Nashville and the influence from the tradition of the American South is evident if you listen to some of his songs played at his concerts on YouTube or DailyMotion.
All songs are written by Costello, except "I Lost You", which he wrote with Jim Lauderdale and "All These Strangers", which involved T Bone Burnett on lyrics.
The second song "Jimmie Standing In The Rain", as you can hear below, refers to a cowboy singer, who played music in little bars in England in 1937.
Asked if the National Ransom characters belonged to a specific time and location, Costello says:" Yes but I'd be happy if you imagine them any time you want. "
