No, I was not in London last night to see the concert by Arctic Monkeys in iTunes Festival. I was at my house and at 11 pm was connected to iTunes to see live one of the best bands of recent years, that we probably will never see in Greece.
Production by Apple was great and I must say that Live Streaming barely stopped once or twice. Roundhouse in London was filled to bursting and I think that they were compensated by the appearance by Arctic Monkeys.
Alex Turner up close is really like a little kid (he's 25 years old). As a musician though, he is incredible! Both with the guitar, and with his vocal abilities which made me wonder if I was listening to a CD or the Live ... Of the remaining three, Matt Helders stood out (drummer), who played with incredible passion!
The sound of the concert was perfect. The choices of the band were mainly from the first (Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not - 2006), the second (Favourite Worst Nightmare - 2007) and last studio album (Suck it and See - 2011). In the middle of the concert Turner plays the beginning of " When the sun goes down " and the crowd begins to sing very loudly. Then, Alex stops laughing and starts " The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala " (their most recent single). So, you know what happened at the end of the regular set with " When the sun goes down "... The voices of the audience were much stronger than Alex Turner! And somewhere in there I wondered: " I wonder if they came to Greece, would we have such a response to this song? " Hard to say...
For an encore, apart from the title track of their recent album, they played both of my favorite songs: " Fluorescent Adolescent " and " 505 " with Miles Kane on guitar. Many thought they would say a song by Last Shadow Puppets, when Kane took the stage (Last Shadow Puppets are Alex Turner and Miles Kane), but that didn't happen... However, Alex did not miss the chance to pick on his friend, telling him that when he took the stage, many girls climbed on the shoulders of others to see him ...
