Coldplay on their show in Atlanta on September 24 gave tribute to REM, performing on stage Everybody hurts. The frontman Chris Martin with much emotion heralded the performance with these words:
We had some very bad news for music lovers and especially for music lovers of Georgia if you know what I mean ... One of our favorite bands broke up for some crazy reason, unfortunately ...

Coldplay then interpreted Everybody hurts and the audience sang with them. Although Martin made the request not to be judged on the performance, I can not resist commenting that strangely, although this kind of music is familiar to Coldplay, the vocals were not impressive. It looks like Michael Stipe has managed to capture this song in history and in our minds only with his own special voice.
