Garbage after a long absence, reveal that their new album is almost complete and explain why they disappeared after the 2005 album Bleed like me.
Singer Shirley Manson, initially blamed the various record companies. They passed them from one to another, and eventually ended up in a company not interested at all at them. The result was, as Manson said:
Drummer Butch Vig admits he did not expect this break to last five years. They saw the time pass quickly, but to their surprise, they found that there was no band that has replaced them in the music industry. Seeing the gap they had left, they decided to take action and to return promptly to the music world.
The new album has not been baptized yet, but seven of the twelve tracks are ready. Most likely, according to Vig it''ll be released at the end of March or early April. Regular meetings of the group started at the beginning of the year into a tiny space they had in Los Angeles. Only two of four members are residents of LA and so they arranged meetings every other week. At first they drank heavily and dawdled even more, as they had missed each others company. Mason said:
'It felt like I was coming home to my family in a way.'
As for the sound of the album, they reassure us, you need not expect anything wildly new. They still like the traditional rock, punk and thrash, they simply use more technology in the studio. Although some say it is similar to their debut, Mason stresses that it is completely different
'But there's an energy there that is, I think, reminiscent of the first record; a sort of hungriness is there.'
Somewhat darker are the lyrics in the album, and will deal with human mortality, as Mason faces a sense of loss following the death of her mother. (Source: Spin)
