Next Sunday, September 29th, one of the most beautiful new singers, KIMBRA will be in gazarte Main Stage for a special acoustic concert, accompanied by guitar, piano and bass.
We talked with KIMBRA about Greek cuisine, the Parthenon, her collaboration with Skrillex on her recent album, the song that stands out from her new album, the movie she played and the special concert she dreams of doing in Ethiopia with...
George Baliotis: It's your first time in Greece for a show. Have you visited our country before?
KIMBRA: Never ! I’ve heard so many wonderful things and I really can’t wait to experience it for myself.
GB: What do you know about Greece?
KIMBRA: I’m a big lover of Greek food! I look forward to eating at some great restaurants and spend time soaking up the history. I love architecture and have always wanted to visit the Parthenon!
GB: Your recent album "Primal Heart" got very good score in many reviews. What is the feedback you have from your fans about this album?
KIMBRA: I’m always blown away by how much detail my fans pick up on my records. They really listen and absorb everything I put into it. The feedback has been amazing, especially because of the live shows. We tend to reimagine a lot of the music live which gives people a new angle into the recordings. I really like to keep evolving the music throughout my touring.
GB: Is there any story behind any of your new songs of "Primal Heart" that you want to share with us?
KIMBRA: The song that means the most to me is probably Version of Me. It is about wanting to be your best self but finding that you always fall short. This is very human and I think we have to learn to be patient with ourselves because we always want to change to happen quickly.
GB: In this album you have cooperated with Skrillex, who is one of the genius of music for us. How was your cooperation with him?
KIMBRA: It was really fun! I was at his studio in LA and he played me some beats he had. One of them was really tribal and exciting the first time I heard it. It was the best for Top of The World. I instantly began singing ideas over it and he loved what I did so we continued to progress the song with the help of other collaborators too. I’m really proud of what we did!
GB: Would you like to tell us more things about your participation to the film "Daffodils"?
KIMBRA: It was my first time acting in a feature length film so it was really exciting to be around a big film crew and watch the process from start to finish. I sing a lot in the movie but I’m not playing myself so it was an interesting challenge! I’d love to do more of it in the future.
GB: One dream for a special show in a special country with special guests?
KIMBRA: Ethiopia. With Mulatu Astatke and Stevie Wonder.
GB: Spotify, Youtube, CD or vinyl? What do you use?
KIMBRA: I like vinyl :) although I do listen to Spotify when I’m traveling also.
GB: In Gazarte smoking is prohibited. What's your opinion about smoking in live shows in clubs?
KIMBRA: As long as it’s not blowing straight in my face I’m okay with it ;)
GB: What will he hear in your show in Athens?
KIMBRA: I will be stripping things down a bit for my Athens show ! I wanted to bring an intimate version of the songs to my fans so it’ll feel very personal!
