The performances of Tricky are always a subject of discussion both before and after. The first on Greek territory in Rodon in 1996 was only the beginning. The ritual created by this Knowle West Boy - the name represents both the place of birth and record title of his work - is unique. Though he started his career from the same collective that gave birth to Massive Attack and Soul II Soul, he decided to follow the darkest routes.
His record presence, moreover, is clearly the "flavor" of the streets of Bristol and possessed by a "darkness which animates, a joyful melancholy". His debut "Maxinquaye" takes its title from Tricky's mum's name that committed suicide when he was only 4. Nevertheless he avoids the characterization trip-hop, although he says "as far as I run [it] is still there».
His latest album titled "Mixed Race" explores once again the underworld. In video clips of the first single Tricky stars as a boxer who is threatened to "quit" the fight. But as in real life, so in his performances Tricky remains a fighter.
On January 21, 22 and 23 we will be dipped in the dark and restless spirit of Tricky and we will see why this full of contradictions artist is so beloved in Greece.
