The legendary Nirvana album “Nevermind” turns 20 on September 24, and the band's label, Universal, is planning to celebrate.
The record company plans to release a deluxe reisuue in a 4-CD/1-DVD package, featuring rarities, B-sides, and unreleased recordings. Also included are unspecified BBC radio appearances and an unreleased concert in its entirety on DVD. The BBC radio appearances, however, are most likely (as reported in spin.com) from four in-studio sessions recorded between 1989 and 1991. (Two of those recordings, for John Peel and Mark Goodier's radio shows, were included on the group's 1993 rarities LP Incesticide).
Universal is also planning to celebrate the anniversary with "various events and releases" throughout the year, according to a statement.
It is expected to be released on Sptember, 19 in USA.
“Nevermind” was released on on September 24, 1991 and was Nirvana’s second studio album. Produced by Butch Vig, Nevermind was the group's first release on DGC Records.
The lead single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" had been released on September 10 and the band set out on a short American tour four days before the release date to support the album.
The best estimate was that the record would likely sell 250.000 copies and could possibly be certified Gold by September 1992. Eventually, Nevermind was certified Gold and Platinum in November 1991, and was certified Diamond in March 1999. The album has sold over 26 million copies worldwide.
Some of the hit singles of the album are “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, “Come As You Are”, “Lithium”, “In Bloom”.
