Although this column refers to alternative music Rainbows, the band that I would like you to spend few minutes of your time probably belongs to the new grunge scene. As macabre as it sounds the band name, this is not a confederation of the dead, but a complex of two childhood friends (Thomas Hardy Morris and Walker Howle), accompanied by three additional musicians. They have changed cities, members, name, changed the way they composed music in order to reduce the initial twenty-minute impromptu ,Pink Floyd style. After all these changes they can be found in the American music scene of Athens, which has given rise to great bands such as REM.
The front man Morris commented on the band name, that "sounded like we did; a bit dark, a bit militant, a bit southern". They are one more band that has survived the battle of the bands and climbs slowly up the steps to success or at least just manages to win free studio recording. The reason they have been linked to Nirvana, appart from their music style is that they signed a contract in 2007 with the same man with whom Nirvana had signed, named Gary Gersh.
They have already released two complete albums. The first, Wrecking Ball , in 2008, while the second Sugar in 2010. Definitely have they not changed much the kind of music they play in these two years, but I think it suits them enough and I would not like them to lose something of the dynamism and dirty sound that characterizes grunge.
In the first album is obvious that they hadn't still managed to limit the length of songs. Distinguished as the first single The Rat which I challenge you to listen right away.
Additionally, for the dismal dynamics, I chose the songs It was a rose, The news underneath, Wrecking bar and Yer circus , where the solo guitar is signed by the characterization of alternative country that some people give them. For moments of intense desire to rock with distorted chords and constant rhythm of drums I would choose Heavy petting and Goner .
