Οι θρυλικοί Skatalites είναι η πρωτοπόρος και σπουδαιότερη μπάντα στην ιστορία της ska.
Ιδρύθηκαν το 1964 στην Τζαμάικα, μετά από μια σειρά από τζαμαρίσματα που βρέθηκαν να κάνουν παρέα, σε διάφορα στούντιο στο Kingston. Ξεκίνησαν αμέσως να κάνουν live εμφανίσεις σε ολόκληρο το νησί, ενώ ταυτόχρονα πλαισίωναν όλους τους μεγάλους Τζαμαϊκανούς καλλιτέχνες, από τον Bob Marley και τον Jimmy Cliff μέχρι τους Toots and the Maytals.
Η μουσική των Skatalites είναι οι ρίζες στο δέντρο της μουσικής της Τζαμάικα, και όχι μόνο, αφού πάνω στον ήχο τους βασίστηκαν και εξελίχθηκαν σπουδαία μουσικά genres: rocksteady, reggae, rap, dub, punk, two-tone, 3rd wave, ska-jazz, ska-core και το ragga.Σήμερα, 47 ολόκληρα χρόνια μετά τη γέννηση του γκρουπ, οι Skatalites εξακολουθούν να γοητεύουν τους μουσικόφιλους σε ολόκληρη την υφήλιο, την οποία και έχουν γυρίσει δεκάδες φορές, στα πλαίσια περιοδειών.
